Poetry Circle Nowhere

De Poetry Circle Nowhere is een gezelschap van performende schrijvers en schrijvende performers die experimenteren met de grenzen van performance poëzie. De Poetry Circle maakt voorstellingen en performances voor theater, clubs, festivals, openbare ruimtes en huiskamers. Daarnaast geeft de Poetry Circle Nowhere workshops, maakt ze publicaties en werkt samen met kunstenaars van allerlei pluimage zoals schrijvers, fotografen, beeldend kunstenaars, muzikanten en theatermakers.

De Poetry Circle is in 2007 opgericht door Lies Aris en Babs Gons en is uitgegroeid uit een serie workshops spoken word die in Nowhere worden gegeven.

De Poetry Circle Nowhere heeft een viertal bijzondere ‘kindjes’: jonge gezelschappen van dichters, die wekelijks bij elkaar komen om schrijf- en performtechnieken te leren en toewerken naar voorstelling.

The Poetry Circle Nowhere is a group of passionate writing performers who experiment with the boundaries of performance poetry and storytelling. The Poetry Circle produces plays and performances for theater, clubs, festivals, exhibitions and open spaces. The group gives workshops and collaborates with artists from various disciplines, like theater, writing, visual art, photography and music, both national as international.

The Poetry Circle Nowhere has been founded by Lies Aris and Babs Gons and has grown from a series of spoken word workshop in Nowhere.

Sinds haar oprichting in 2008 heeft de Poetry Circle Nowhere verschillende voorstellingen gemaakt waaronder ‘Net Niet’, ‘Die Maar’, ‘Alter Ego’ en Re Move All’. Deze laatste show ‘werd gerealiseerd in het kader van het internationale theaterfestival Contacting the World. is Re Move All is tot stand gekomen in het kader van het internationale theater festival Contacting the World 2010. De Poetry Circle Nowhere is een van 12 gezelschappen die uit 100 gezelschappen uit de hele wereld is geselecteerd om deel te nemen aan dit unieke uitwisselingsproject en is gekoppeld aan de Sophiatown Ambassadors uit Johannesburg. Uit deze uitwisseling, contacten met de andere gezelschappen en eigen hoogzittende ideeën is de nieuw voorstelling Re Move All tot stand gekomen onder begeleiding van regisseur Caspar Nieuwenhuis.

In 2011 stond de PCN met ‘Contact’, een theatraal onderzoek naar de meest bedreigde behoefte van de mens in het facebook tijdperk in verschillende theaters waaronder het Rozentheaer, Bijlmerparktheater en bij Breakin’ Walls in Frascati.

Momenteel reist de PCN rond met hun nieuwste show genaamd ‘Vierkante Herinneringen’ een storytelling voorstelling waarin de performers de verhalen van opgroeien vertellen.

De PCN stond op vele festivals en programma’s zoals bijvoorbeeld Poëzie in het Park (Amsterdam Wereldboekenstad), Club Ambras, Mind the Gap, Tolhuistuin, Fringe Festival, Rozentheater, FOAM, Uitmarkt, Black Magic Woman Festival , The Writer’s Bench in Antwerpen, het Afrovibes festival en bij De Laatste Dichters van MC, Oerol, Solar en het Noorderzon Festival.

Poetry Circle Nowhere wordt ondersteund door het Prins Bernard Cultuurfonds, het AFK en het SNS REAAL Fonds. En door uw liefde en aandacht.

Since its inception in 2008 the Poetry Circle Nowhere made several shows, including ‘Net niet’ (Not just), ‘Die Maar’ (But that) and ‘Alter Ego’ and ‘Remove all’. This last show ‘was realized within the framework of the international theater festival Contacting the world. They were one of 12 companies selected out of hundreds from around the world to participate in this unique exchange program and were coupled to a group from Johannesburg. In 2011 they toured several theaters with ‘Contact’, a theatrical research show to the most threatend need of human beings.

Currently the Poetry Circle Nowhere is travelling with their latest show called ‘Vierkante Herinneringen’ (Square Memories), a storytelling show in which the performers narrate their own stories of growing up.
